My wife and I ate dinner at Niki's after a tiring evening looking at stuff for a kitchen re-do. Although the innards of the room are in a minor state of disrepair (duct tape on many booth seats and stools), the food was better than I expected it to be. The Greek Salad is a chopped variation on the traditional one with a fair amount of romaine lettuce. The Spanikopita (a.k.a. Spinach Pie) was not great but decent. My french fries were traditional and not salted (a plus). My wife liked her meat loaf. Niki's may look out of place compared to its flashier Royal Oak neighbors. However, I hope there is always a place for this kind of good, solid food everywhere.

Very close to where I live and I only visited once but the food didn't really stand out. Staff is excellent but I wasn't excited with the food. I'll prolly need to check it out again for breakfast but there's a lot of competition in the area and I'm in no rush to head back.

Quick, quaint, breakfast joint. Good for when I want a "coney style" breakfast. Affordable as well. Get there early because the quiche will sell out, and I often want quiche! They have a great patio in the summer.

Niki's is a sweet, family-owned place where you are treated like family! Donna is a great cook, and makes a special vegan scramble for me--it's delicious! I can't wait for summer, the outdoor seating is great. We bicycle to the RO Farmer's Market, then wheel over to Niki's for breakfast on the patio amongst the nicely potted herbs and plants that adorn the patio. Dog-friendly outdoor dining too! Niki's rocks!!

We've been here a few times for breakfast. It's hit or miss. They give you a lot of food for cheap, but the last time I was there, they gave me moldy toast. I haven't really been back since...

Niki's is a great place to go for a super casual breakfast, they're even open really early in the morning, i'd like to say 7AM but it might be 5 or 6AM. The atmosphere is like being at your grandma's place. You'll get plenty of coffee refills, delicious omelets with hashbrowns, toast, and SUPER cheap prices! They also make delicious quiche. This is the place to go if you're looking for unpretentious food served quick and cheap and made from scratch.

I'm glad I gave Niki's another shot. The corned beef hash was to die for. I'll be back.

Sometimes you want a fancy brunch with mimosas and bloody mary's and unique specials. And sometimes you just want a good ol' homemade breakfast. And when you are starving hungry for breakfast, the last thing you want to do is wait 45 minutes to an hour. We love Nikis for breakfast on Sundays. Their servers are all friendly and attentive, their food is great, and you can't beat the prices. Oh, and we have never waited for a table. Bonus: I love their patio on a beautiful day. I've stopped in a couple of times for other meals and always pleased. Their greek salad is great.

Let me start by saying, I take no pleasure in giving a restaurant a bad review. I know it's not easy running a food business. As a customer, I have a right to expect an honest meal for an honest buck. We didn't walk away from Niki's with the feeling we got what we paid for, sadly. Here are my observations: 1. The sign out front says, in bold letters "Nikis Famous Greek Salads and GYROS" let me stress the "GYROS" part. Unfortunately, the owners of this establishment have decided to save a buck with vacuum packaged gyros meat, not the real deal, sliced from a roll on a spit on a rotisserie like you would expect from a good Greek restaurant (I can name many). This is the same stuff anyone can buy from GFS and make at home, in the microwave or fried in a pan which is what our meat was. (see picture). 2. Famous Greek Salad? This reminds me of the scene in the movie The Jerk were Navin Johnson walks into a diner and congratulates the owners in having the "Best Coffee in The World!" because it said so on a little sign out front. This is FAR from the best Greek Salad or even close to being famous unless you count the throngs of friends and relatives that obviously leave favorable reviews for this restaurant on Yelp. Where was the salad dressing? Dry as a bone. No flavor. 3. We ordered a gyro sandwich for $6.95 and the "Supreme Gyros Platter" with double meat and a baby Greek for $12.95. The "double meat" was 3 extra slices of pre-packaged (I hate to actually use the term) Gyro meat. The wife ordered rice pilaf on the side and I was told my "platter" didn't come with fries or rice, I would have to order the Supreme Platter to get that, for an additional $1.00. We both got our gyros and had to wait another 10 minutes for the rice that we paid extra for to get served, separately. By then, we were almost done with our nasty, flavorless pre-packaged gyro meat (skimpy portions were a blessing actually) and the rice showed up steaming fire hot being fresh from the microwave. The red sauce was actually brown (sitting around in a pot for several days, I'm sure) and tasted awful. The rice was watery and under-cooked. In addition, the rice was served in small rice pudding cups (hot from microwaves) and didn't amount to 1/4 cup. Again, that may have been a blessing because we took one bite and passed on further punishing our pallets. 4. The pita was rubbery, as noted by several other reviews herein. 5. I asked the waitress is she considered my serving as worthy of the description "double meat" and she replied, "well yes, that's 3 extra slices right?, a sandwich is three slices so double meat would be six, that's what you got!" I didn't want to argue the fact that by ordering a "platter", which costs almost 100% more than a sandwich, you naturally assume you get more meat, not just a sandwich spread open on a dish instead of wrapped in aluminum foil with 3 extra slices of thinly shaved meat. If it doesn't come with rice, fries or a salad, what makes it a platter? 6. I noticed the waitress serving omelettes to nearby tables and noticed they were heavily browned, burnt actually. I hate burnt eggs, the taste of the eggs changes when you burn them. I know some people like their eggs brown but some people like their marshmallows carbonized on a camp fire or hot dogs sizzled into charcoal but that is not how you serve a tasty omelette, sorry. I am glad I didn't have to experience that explosion of bitterness in my mouth. 7. The tzatziki sauce was the consistency of watery ranch dressing and my gyros were swimming in it. Actually that was good because it softened the chewy pita bread to a texture that was somewhat tolerable. I got through about 10& of my pita and gave up. 8. The waitress dropped of our rice pilaf (I use the term lightly), apologized for being served so late into the meal and took off. We never saw her after that and after waiting about 10 minutes for our check, we had to step up to the register and pay for out meal. The guy that checked us out never asked how our meal was or thanked us for the patronage. I would not recommend this establishment and we would not make plans to return.

I've come here often for breakfast, it's a cozy little place. The breakfast tastes just like home, the waitress and owner are non stop waiting on you hand and foot. This is the type of place I'd rather see my money go to because I know the owner's heart is in the right place.

I've never eaten dinner here; just breakfast, and it has always been deeeee-licious. I personally love the omelets, but there is a good variety of fresh menu items that are served at good prices. The place is not large and has a real intimate feel to it, so you may be fighting for tables if you come at a bad time! There is even a nice little parking lot out back. The waitresses are great, the owners are jovial ...it's just the right place to be, especially when you, um, may have drank too much the night before and need to fill up your stomach!

This is an introductory review, given that I have only had the Gyro and Baby Greek salad. I will reserve the right to revise and extend my remarks. An old school family owned Greek diner just north of downtown Royal Oak. Nikis makes a damn fine Gyro. Loaded with meat and a delicious tzatziki sauce, its a great example of the local Detroit style Gyro. The Baby Greek salad was more like a tween size, and loaded with feta. Why do some establishments get stingy with the feta? If you ask them, they would probably say cost. That's where Niki's headbutts them hard. $5.95 for the Gyro and Baby Greek combo. Echoing Kristen G's breakfast value observations, Its probably the best lunch deal in Royal Oak. On the menu are delicious looking breakfast items, and the Greek Fries (Fries, feta and tzatziki dip) sound amazing. I can't wait to return to sample their other items.

My wife and I have been going to Niki's for years and they have the best breakfast in town. They always have a great selection of new and inventive omelettes and the staff treats us like family. One of the best omelettes I've had is the Mac Daddy which is filled with mac and cheese. It's not good for you at all but it is a great tasting breakfast. We've moved since we starting goign to Niki's and there are other restaurants that are closer to us now, but we continue to make the trip over there every weekend.

It's Saturday morning. Where to go? Why Niki's, of course! It's my go-to breakfast spot in Royal Oak. It's family owned & run, and they use super fresh ingredients - you can completely tell. The B#2 is perfect: two eggs any style, 1/2 order meat, American fries & toast for under $4! Savory or sweet, there are many options for you. The service is always rockin', & there's no doubt that the staff loves working here. I'll have to try lunch or dinner here and report back. See you next week!

Just moved to Royal Oak and decided to try Niki's today on a whim....so glad we did! I'm a sucker for a great yogurt and fruit parfait, and pretty much NO ONE makes a good one - but theirs was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented to boot! The fried egg croissant was cooked perfectly, and my friend said his ultimate greek omelette was delicious as well. Everyone there was super friendly and food came out in a jiffy. Pretty sure I just found my new favorite breakfast spot in RO!

We came to Royal Oak for a show and had hours to spare. After walking around town for a while we decided to stop in to Niki's for a quick bite-- and we're definitely glad we did! A very small "mom & pop" joint with great food. We both had a gyro with fries and it was great! Some of the best fries I've had -- and the gyro was delicious. Very kind, friendly service by just one little lady who took care of everyone. Support local businesses like this one! It's fantastic :)

My friends finally convinced me to check out Niki's. I've spent years driving by it, but never stopped in. The verdict? Pretty standard coney island fare with a few stand-out dishes. The pancakes are tight and the crepes are very decent and cheap! How many coney islands have Nutella on the menu? The staff is warm, friendly, and obviously love their regulars. I can see why it's a neighborhood favorite. I would have given this 4 stars, except that when we went up to pay I was distracted by the dirty kitchen. Food was all over the floor including lots of banana peels and egg shells. The garbage next to the grill was overflowing. Not a good mental image. But don't hate on Nikis. If you live in the RO 'hood, this place could be a regular stop for breakfast or lunch.

Prime place for the hangover cure for CHEAP! A whopping $2.25 buys you 2 eggs, american fries or 2 pancakes, and toast. I love me some grits though, so I usually add an extra .75 cents or whatever it is to "upgrade" to grits instead of the american fries. Nothing soothes my battered liver quite like an over easy egg broken in a pool of warm steaming grits then topped with a barrage of hot sauce. Sweet breakfast redemption! That scrappy hangover doesn't stand a chance! This place is no frills family diner. The term "greasy spoon" was coined off of places like this. And you know what? I wouldn't change a damn thing! Know why? Cause it's CHEAP and GOOD and sometimes I just don't have to wait an hour for my eggs and toast in the beating hot sun when I'm too hungover to cook it my damn self. So all the Niki's haters: have fun eating a breakfast for 3 times as much after waiting an hour to be just as satisfied.

This place may not look like much, but there is outdoor seating, the food is cheap, the service is good and the specials are great! Its also a bonus that you do not have to pay for parking being in Royal oak!

I've been coming to this place for well over 10 years and consider this place one of the most underrated places to eat in Royal Oak. This is a good thing because not many outside of the people in the direct area even think about it. The building is old and dingy, the vinyl seats are duct taped together, and they recently started taking credit cards. The food (a mix of Greek and American traditional) this lady makes is just plain good-maybe not great but always! always! good and about 2/3rds the price of downtown Royal Oak. I had an amazing Greek Gyro (real Gyro meat) Omelet this morning with coffee-just regular good ole diner coffee-for 8 bucks. The nutella Crepes are pretty good as well. Many home cooked dinner specials. This is a very local restaurant that I need to get to more often.

OK, honestly this is home made food. Donna, the Mom of the operation is a chef genius that just didn't pursue that high flatfooting life because she wanted a family and her own Restaurant that strives to make you feel at home... from the casual atmospher-I mean super casual, pj's welcome!! :) Waitstaff guidelines when hired amongst others "... must love animals..." I LOVE that rule! :) It's posted right on the "Help Wanted Board." Anyways, the omelets are to die for - if you love corned beef omelets you must get that! If they have gravy add that if you like sausage gravy, the gravy is the best I've tried and I'm from the south! They are known for their excellent food served up fast, great if you need lunch fast but still want to sit. Plenty of parking!!!! Also known for home made(literally) PIES, COOKIES, BREADS, SAUCES, ITALIAN DISHES AS WELL AS GREEK!!! Oh you must must try (if you like that type of thing) LOADED HASH BROWNS. Not the string kind the sliced kind, they hand slice and hand "string" the potatoes and the loaded flat browns are so darn good. I sometimes make them an entire meal and get two orders. I add tons of sour cream! THE BOMB DIGGITY. I come here often but not as often as I wish I could. I miss you all dearly lately Niki's Family. I pray you stay open for generations to come! Cheers to that! You've been around for a long time lets keep this kind of wonderfulness that I see disappear in this world around people. Visit, and visit often as you can! small prices - LARGE PORTIONS!

Our first visit today, but we'll be back. An excellent breakfast at an outstanding price. Got the #2 - two eggs any style, a pile of crispy american fries, choice of two sausage links or two slices of bacon and toast... all this for under 4 bucks! What a value. Nice wait staff. Want to try the Gyro & greek salad next time.

This place can easily earn it's 5th star from me, but for now it's a solid 4. I have to agree with Chris's review, this is the most underrated breakfast spot in Royal Oak. Never a wait, solid coffee, and an old school feel (wood paneling, brown vinyl bench seats, etc.).Now, don't get me wrong, I love Toast and all those hip places, but sometimes I don't want to wait 45 minutes for a table on a cold saturday morning. Nikis gets the job done for sure. You want breakfast? You got it...and it's good food to boot. The first time I went for breakfast and had my standard(baseline for breakfast spots (think of it as the control in my little science experiment to find the best breakfast in Detroit): 2 eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns with a cup of coffee. It was only $5. You can't beat that without going to a coney island. The eggs are always cooked perfectly and you get exactly what you expect when you order. They even have grits, if you like. I've never had lunch here, but I bet it's just as straight forward as their breakfast.

Niki's rocks- we used to go to Jimi's all the time on Washington but we've migrated over to Niki's because we can get the same breakfast at Niki's for a lot cheaper, although no one can beat Jimi's bacon. I, myself, am not a huge breakfast fan but my husband is- he always gets the breakfast special with 3 eggs which is like 5 bucks- 9 times out of 10 the eggs are perfect, and they actually make the hashbrowns well done when asked. I love their crepes, they come 3 to an order but you can get 2 (like me!) for cheaper or even just 1 if you like. They also have some kick-ass banana walnut pancakes- I'm not a big fan of pancakes, but these were perfection with whole walnuts and just the right amount of caramel drizzle on top. They have a great croissant breakfast sandwich- I like it made with the cheddar cheese, which is actually real cheddar, and bacon. Their greek salads are ok- I think I actually like Jimi's greek dressing better than Niki's. To me, it's usually all about the dressing since the actual ingredients don't vary much. They have this awesome ground meat blend called "crevepe?" (I think!?) that, for the month of August at least, they put on a slider bun and topped with their awesome homemade tzatziki and feta- YUM! Niki's is a great local spot for breakfast OR lunch, I have yet to try their Gyros, but I'm heading there next. Oh, and by the way, the service is usually excellent and very friendly.

I can't believe this place isn't more well known. Generious portions of excellent honest-to-goodness home made food, friendly staff, great coffee, breakfast any time... it might not look like much from the outside (and okay, the inside is pretty simple, too) but I will definitely be back. It might not be the Ritz... but who needs all that fuss when all you want is a decent meal at a price that won't break the bank?

The absolute best place for breakfast in Royal Oak. Our family has been coming here for about 20 years and will come for alot more. Looks really nice since the remodel, too!!

Be careful with carryout, they forgot the dressing for my greek salad, making it pretty worthless. The rest of the food was just okay. Not any better than Leos and waitstaff was rude.

ordered a tuna fish sandwich($5.40) on toast and got a glob of wet, smelly tuna shreds, obviously not albacore, - no mayo, celery, pickles or anything else, on two pieces of toast, with no pickle on the side;had to up and get my own coffee refill. if the owner sees this, call me at 248 288 5312 - I'd like my money back worst food I've ever had, and I've been around.

This place is gross. One server was on and nobody was really helping her. She did a good job tho. But the food was horrible.
